laser drilling of calibrated holes for leak testing applications

For leak test hole system validation, micro-holes were laser drilled in glass and polymer vials/anchors. A range of hole sizes can be created to replicate defects in vials for use in calibrating leak detection misreads. Depending on the wall thickness of the vial/ampoule, the hole size can be as small as 1um. In addition to vials, foil and blister packs can also be laser drilled.

Advantages of laser drilled leak test holes include:

1) Better analogous to natural defects in glass (cracks) and polymers (pinholes).

2) Tight tolerances can be achieved on most materials and thicknesses.

3) Aperture settings and calibration kits can be customized according to customer requirements.

A certificate of conformity and a quality data sheet are included with each leak test hole drilling order. Leak test holes as small as 1 micron for accurate leak hole placement
